As prosecutors worked to build their case, the question of what truly happened on the couple’s honeymoon became even more contested. In Part 2 of Murder: True Crime Stories, Carter Roy examines the fight over Dewani’s extradition, the courtroom proceedings that followed, and the testimony surrounding Anni’s killing. The prosecution argued that the attack had been carefully orchestrated, while the defense challenged the credibility of key witnesses and the deals made in exchange for their cooperation. As the case moved toward a verdict, it left behind deep uncertainty about the truth. More than a decade later, the murder of Anni Dewani remains one of the most debated and controversial international true crime cases.

What initially appeared to be a tragic robbery soon took a darker turn as investigators uncovered signs that the attack may have been planned. In Part 1 of Murder: True Crime Stories, Carter Roy examines the couple’s relationship, the events leading up to the night of the killing, and the early investigation that led to multiple arrests. As witness statements and new evidence began to raise questions about what really happened, suspicion shifted toward Anni’s husband, Shrien Dewani, setting the stage for a complex and highly scrutinized case.

Comedian Mike Binder described Honeymoons as “A short period of doting between dating and debting” It's one of those things that’s funny because for many of us…it’s true
One way to avoid the “debt” part, of course, is to marry a millionaire. Which is exactly what Swedish citizen Anni Dewani had done, in the fall of 2010.

In 2010, Anni Dewani and her new husband Shrien, set off on their 10 day honeymoon to South Africa. What started off as a picture perfect holiday, soon turned into a nightmare when Anni was kidnapped and killed. Soon, everyone involved would be pointing the finger at each other, leaving the events of what happened that night…still being questioned to this day.
UPDATE: One of the men convicted in her murder in 2010, Zola Tongo - the taxi driver on the night - has been granted parole. (March 2022)
According to a report in The South African:
“Tongo has a string of conditions to adhere to, as part of his parole.
• Tongo has to find work
• He is also not free to roam around as he pleased and will be placed under house detention
• Tongo must also undergo social work and psychological treatment while on parole
• He is barred from using or trading in any alcohol or drugs and can be subjected to random substance and drug tests”
We wanted to keep you all up to date and will continue to do so as and when more information comes to light.
