On 17 August 1995, 21-year-old Angela Blackmoore was stabbed and bludgeoned 39 times in the kitchen of her Wainoni, Christchurch home while her two-year-old son slept nearby. She was 10 weeks pregnant. The case went unsolved for nearly 25 years under police Operation Vancouver. In 2019, following a Stuff investigation (Dark Secret) and a $100,000 reward, Jeremy Powell was re-interviewed and confessed to the killing. He said debt collector David Hawken, who had connections to the Templars Motorcycle Club, ordered the hit and offered $10,000 to free up a property deal. Powell said Blackmoore's close friend Rebecca Wright-Meldrum helped him gain entry to the house. Powell pleaded guilty in 2020 and received life with a 10-year non-parole period. Hawken and Wright-Meldrum were tried and found guilty by jury in December 2023, having denied any involvement throughout.
