Tammy Zywicki was on her way back to Grinnell College when she was last seen on the side of the road on I-80 in LaSalle County, Illinois. 8 days later, her body was found over 400 miles south in Missouri. But to this day, her case remains unsolved. Several suspects have been investigated over the years, but no charges have ever been filed. And as recently as August 2026, a new person of interest was named, and police are asking for the public’s help. Anyone with any information about Theresa “Teri” Belenske (maiden name Vega), who was known to hitchhike and  could have been traveling with the unknown truck driver Tammy was last seen with, can contact the FBI. Anyone with information about Tammy Zywicki’s kidnapping and murder can call the Illinois State Police at 815-224-1171, email [email protected], or the FBI's Chicago field office at 312-421-6700.
