In Fort Worth, the defense has rested in the punishment trial of Tanner Horner, the man who pleaded guilty to the capital murder of 7-year-old Athena Strand; the jury will soon deliberate whether he lives or dies, after weeks of testimony about a deeply troubled childhood, neurological damage, and the horrific details of what happened inside that delivery van. And in Wilmer, Alabama, a suspect has been arrested in the triple murder of a mother, her pregnant teenage daughter, and her 12-year-old son, all found bound and killed in three separate rooms while an 18-month-old child was left behind unharmed.
