But by morning, the scene inside Cabin 28 was anything but peaceful. What investigators found was a blood-soaked mystery involving multiple victims, a missing child, and no trace of who—or what—had come in the night. With few answers and a town cloaked in silence, this case would go on to become one of the most disturbing unsolved crimes in American history. This is the story of the Keddie Cabin Murders.more

Renowned for its serene natural beauty and tranquil ambience, this sleepy town harbors a chilling secret that casts a dark, unnerving shadow over its picturesque setting - a grisly unsolved quadruple murder case that has baffled investigators for decades.
On the chilly morning of April 12, 1981, a disturbing discovery was made that shook Keddie to its core and forever tainted its idyllic reputation. In Cabin 28 of the Keddie Resort, a ghastly scene unfolded. The bodies of Sue Sharp, her two children John and Dana, and John's friend Dana Wingate, were found brutally murdered. The shocking discovery sent waves of fear and bewilderment through the tight-knit community. Even more unnerving was the inexplicable fact that three younger children, who were in the very same cabin, remained untouched by the malevolent perpetrator and seemed to sleep through the brutal attack.
In stark contrast to the gruesome violence inflicted upon the victims, the tranquil calm of Keddie Resort seemed untouched, no screams had pierced the stillness of the night, and no frantic calls for help had been made. The dark events of that fateful night went unnoticed by neighboring cabins, adding to the enigma of a mystery that continues to baffle and intrigue to this day.
This unsolved crime is not just a tale of murder and mystery; it's a haunting narrative of a family torn apart, a community forever scarred, and an enduring quest for justice. It's a complex puzzle with missing pieces, unexplained evidence, and chilling theories. It is the story of the Keddie Cabin Murders - a case that continues to captivate, confound, and compel those who delve into its chilling depths.more

Keddie, California. 36-year old Sue Sharp, her 15-year old son John Sharp, and John’s 17-year old friend, Dana Wingate, are found brutally murdered inside Cabin 28 at the Keddie Resort. Sue’s 12-year old daughter, Tina Sharp, is missing and her skeletal remains would be discovered in a remote area three years later. Sue’s two youngest sons, along with a 12-year old family friend named Justin Smartt spent the night in a separate bedroom and were left unharmed. Over the years, the investigation would uncover two promising suspects who happened to live in another cabin at the resort. Were these two men responsible for the Keddie Cabin murders? Was there was a cover-up by law enforcement which allowed them to escape justice? Did Justin Smartt witness the murders and block the event from his memory? Were other suspects involved in the crime? For our special Halloween episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we will be examining an infamous case which was voted on by our listeners. Special thanks to listeners Kelly Campbell, Stuart Davis, and Stephanie Kurtz for narrating sections of today’s episode.
