Her father, Tommy Ballard, was killed the following year. This summer, Crystal’s former boyfriend, Brooks Houck, and two other men were convicted in connection to her death. But Tommy’s and three additional murders remain unsolved, and the Bardstown community wants answers. Andrea tells Lester about the crimes that stunned and divided residents and gives updates on where the investigations stand now. Then, she shares a podcast-exclusive clip from her interview with Crystal’s mother, Sherry Ballard. Later, Dateline producer Rachel White, who worked on the episode, joins Andrea to answer viewer and listener questions from social media.

Crystal Rogers mother, Sherry Ballard, reports her missing on July 5. Later that day, Crystal Rogers red Chevy Malibu is found abandoned on the Bluegrass Parkway. The car has a flat tire, but Rogers' keys, phone and purse are still inside. 16-months later, Crystal Rogers is still missing and her father, Sherry Ballard's husband, Tommy Ballard, is murdered in the early morning hours as he prepares to go hunting on his own property with his 12-year-old grandson.
Ballard is shot from an undetermined distance, but his property backs up against the Bluegrass Parkway. It's a fast getaway in either direction for a gunman. On this episode of Body Bags, Joseph Scott Morgan and Dave Mack explore the disappearance of Crystal Rogers and the murder of her dad, Tommy Ballard. Plus, Joseph Scott Morgan explains how prosecutors can prove Crystal Rogers was murdered, even though they haven't found her body.

At the time of her disappearance, Crystal was living with her children and her boyfriend, local businessman Brooks Houck, who also happens to be the last person who saw her before she vanished, never to be seen again. On July 5th, Crystal’s maroon 2007 Chevy Impala was found abandoned at mile marker 14 on the Bluegrass Parkway. The keys were in the ignition, Crystal’s cell phone and purse were still in the car, and there did not appear to be any signs of a struggle, but no one who knew Crystal could understand why she would just get out of her car instead of using her phone to call for help, and the situation became more suspicious when Crystal’s family discovered that even though her boyfriend Brooks had not heard from her over night, he had not called to report Crystal missing, and he didn’t seem concerned about her whereabouts at all. What would follow was an investigation that uncovered some shady activities hiding beneath the idyllic small town appeal of Bardstown, Kentucky, and two more deaths that had many people wondering if it was all connected back to Crystal Rogers.
