Shortly afterwards, he accidentally drove his car into a ditch, and called his parents asking for help. During a frustrating ordeal in the middle of the night, his parents couldn’t find him amongst the flat farmland, even though he was confident he was in a particular area and giving them clear instructions. Almost an hour into their call, he shouted an expletive, and the call ended – leaving his parents even more frantic to find him. Eerily, when police located his vehicle the next day, it was in a ditch 25 minutes away from where he thought he was. So what happened to him after that call dropped? This is the story of Brandon Swanson.more

He had been out earlier that night and gone to a couple of parties before making his way home to Marshall, Minnesota. Unfortunately, on the way home, he ran into a bit of car trouble when his car veered a bit off the side of a gravel road and got stuck in a ditch. He called his parents for help and explained exactly where he was but when they got there Brandon was nowhere to be seen and neither was his car. This case is truly one of the most bizarre we’ve covered to date and sadly, there is a lack of any closure involved.

The parents of 19-year old Brandon Swanson receive a late-night phone call from their son, who claims that his car has become stuck in a ditch in the middle of nowhere. The Swansons leave to go pick Brandon up, but have trouble finding him. At one point, Brandon’s father hears him shout a swear word over the phone before the call abruptly cuts off, and there is no answer to repeated attempts to phone him back. Even though his abandoned car is eventually found on a rural road, Brandon himself is never heard from again. What happened to Brandon Swanson, and what could have prompted his final reaction during his final phone call? In our latest Halloween-themed extended minisode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we tackle one of the scariest, most baffling missing persons cases of the past decade. Special thanks to Joe from Thinking Sideways Podcast for popping in to share a theory. Be sure to check out their episode about this case.
